When Dean became a member of the Ontario Rodeo Association in 1999, he instantly was identified as a champion athlete. Regardless of the venue, the format or the potential reward, Dean's true cowboy spirit showed us that there truly never was a horse who couldn't be rode. He earned the nickname, "Sticky" because he would not stop riding a bucking horse until he met the pickup man after the 8-second buzzer.
His tenure in the ORA Rodeo Arena saw him at the top of the podium 5-times as the ORA Year-end Champion Saddle Bronc Rider ('03-'05, '08-'09) and won the prestigious Ontario Finals Rodeo 3-times ('06, '08-'09), along with his several Top-7 Finishes and OFR Qualifications in the Steer Wrestling. Internationally, he qualified for the International Finals Rodeo in Oklahoma City, OK in the Saddle Bronc Riding.
After a severe wreck at a rodeo event in late 2009, Dean left the Rodeo limelight as competitor, but would still be seen at events as supporter and driver for his love Chanda Burke. Though the year 2009 marked an end of one career, it was also a year of new beginnings for Dean as he and Chanda welcomed their child Kade into our World. And tragically on November 20th, 2011, Dean was called to the Lord's Pasture. The Rodeo's Cowboys Prayer provides to us what Heaven is for our Family; and now we look for comfort in knowing that Dean is riding those green pastures, and looking forward to saddling his next bronc in God's Arena.
